Tea, a warm beverage with aromas and flavors. Its scientific name is "Camellia sinensis".It was named after the Greek goddess " Theia".

It is believed that tea was invented in China about 6,000 years ago .There are many myths about  tea in Chinese civilization. It is said that a farmer named "Shen Nung" who went to the jungle to find grains, but accidentally  he poisoned himself about 72 times. When he was almost to death, a leaf fell into his mouth and chewing on that leaf cut off his poison. This is how tea is thought to be invented. However, tea does not remove any toxins. But this myth reveals the importance of tea in Chinese culture. The same kind of tea that was cultivated in the beginning, is now grown all over the world.

Initially, tea was used as a vegetable. Gradually, the tea consumption process changes. Tea was converted from food to drink 1500 years ago. When tea begins to be consumed as a beverage, it is named  "Mocha" or "Macha". In the ninth century, a Japanese mong  brought tea plants for the first time in Japan. And later they create their own culture with tea and what is known as the "Japanese Tea ceremony".This tea spread as a beverage in the 16th century, when Dutch businessmen started bringing tea to Europe in large quantities. And in the 17th century, tea became so popular that in Europe tea was sold for ten times the price of coffee. But then tea was only produced in China. There was a trade competition between some British and western merchants. In the beginning, the British used to trade Chinese with silver for tea and at one time it became very expensive, so the British offered opium for tea instead of silver and it was effective. But a few days later, this opium caused a public health issue in China. People all over China became  addicted to opium. For this reason, the Chinese seized and burned all British opium  vessels in 1803.This led to a war between the British and the Chinese on the port and the Chinese were defeated. Then some other ports, including Hong Kong, came under British. The British East India Company decides to cultivate their own tea so that they can survive in the tea trade so they send botanist Robert Fortune to China on a secret mission to bring tea plants from China. He brought some tea trees to Darjeeling and from there tea was spread all over South Asia. Tea cultivation started in India in the year 1818. The British found the first tea tree in Sylhet in  1855. After that,In 1857 commercial tea cultivation was started at Malnichara in Sylhet. According to one study, 3.8 million tonnes of tea leaves have been produced all over the world in the year 2008. China, India, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Turkey are among the leading tea producing countries.Bangladesh is ranked eighth in the list. The production of tea in Bangladesh is about 600 million kg annually and from there it is exported to 25 countries. The number of tea drinkers in Bangladesh is increasing at 16 percent every year. Tea is the world's most enjoyable beverage in the world after tea.
